Slovenia is preparing for a major change in the field of accounting and taxes – from January 1, 2027, e-invoices will be mandatory for all companies in business-to-business (B2B) transactions. This measure follows the European Directive on the Digitalization of Business and will have a major impact on accounting practices in Ljubljana and across the country.
What does this mean in practice?
Companies will have to issue invoices in one of the prescribed electronic formats (e-SLOG, EN 16931 or another agreed structured format). The exchange will take place through authorized service providers, which will ensure interoperability and transparency.
For accounting services, this means additional responsibility: helping clients adapt IT systems, check compliance and optimize processes. Although the deadline is still far away, we recommend that companies start checking in a timely manner whether their software allows the export and exchange of e-invoices in the required formats.
The advantage of introducing mandatory e-invoices is greater transparency, reduced errors and faster invoice processing. On the other hand, companies that do not prepare in time will risk administrative complications and possible sanctions.
